A volunteer-run conservation campaign in Nalanda. We pull snakes out of kitchens, count heronry nests in the middle of town, keep fire off the Rajgir hills, and take students outside to meet the species already living around them.
Who we are
Bihar Paryavaran Sanrakshan Abhiyan began in 2014 as a group of students and amateur naturalists in Nalanda who were tired of watching rescued animals die for want of a phone number.
Since then the work has spread across Bihar and Jharkhand: outreach and awareness, rescue and rehabilitation, and capacity-building workshops for school and college students and for forest department frontline staff. It is still run by volunteers, and still funded in small amounts by people who live here.
We are not a research institute and we do not pretend to be. What we have is a district we know street by street, and a habit of writing down what we see.

What we do
Every programme below runs on volunteers and on permission from the forest department. Rescued animals are always handed over for release, never kept.
Snakes in kitchens, injured birds, monitor lizards in drains. Volunteers respond across Nalanda and hand animals to the forest department for release.
School eco clubs, nature stalls and outdoor sessions that put students in front of the species living around their own villages.
Heronry counts, nest monitoring and bird documentation across Nalanda, recorded by volunteers and shared with researchers.
Forest fire prevention around Rajgir Wildlife Sanctuary, wetland cleanups and training for forest department frontline staff.
Campaigns
Each campaign carries a reference so photographs, attendance and field notes stay tied to the same record.
A year-long programme of classroom sessions, eco club activities and field outings run with government and private schools.
Village-level awareness and fire-line work with the forest department through the dry season, when the Rajgir hills are most at risk.
A travelling stall of specimens, posters and species boards taken to fairs and public events, where most visitors meet a snake safely for the first time.
A cleanup along the pond edge led by Ganga Prahari volunteers and ward representatives together with local residents.
